What is the makeup of a community? Who are its members and what activities do they carry out? Where is our school located? These questions guide research on the geographical location of school campus, offering a platform integrating History, English Language Arts, and Visual Arts. Research focuses on the school as a community within a larger community. Using Google Earth, students identify and locate neighboring points of interest, as well as school campus and bordering streets. Students individually illustrate different school areas based on observation. Illustrations are arranged to create a collective mural, where buildings and areas are labeled, including surrounding streets. Students are assessed through checklists and rubrics for the components of their projects.
