Fifth graders weave together social studies, history, and English language arts to create a dance piece entitled ”Immigration Nation.” Over the course of this project, students practice the art of dance-making, choreographing dance sequences depicting hobbies and future hopes. Then students work as trios and quartets to depict themes such as opportunity and hardship. Students also write letters from an American immigrant to their family. Combining choreographies and letters, students create a multimedia performance of dance-theatre and spoken word. The project culminates in a presentation to parents, teachers, and students.
